Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my blog!

My name is Mira Eagan, and I am a senior at the University of Oregon studying public relations. I was born and raised in Oregon, so attending the UO has always been a dream of mine. When I began my first year, I knew I wanted to work in public relations. As I started taking classes and meeting my professors, I fell in love with the industry and knew I was on the right path. Today, I am now a senior finishing up my final PR courses. I am feeling an array of emotions: excitement, anxiety, sadness, but most importantly, hope. A year from now, my life will be completely different, but I am confident I will love what I do.

Growing up, my mom and I watched Fashion Police, Project Runway, and the red carpet. To some extent, I attribute my obsession with fashion to these shows. My dream job is working in the fashion industry, which sounds cliche, but my love for fashion is inexplicable.

As much as I love the fashion world, I also love our planet. Fast fashion is an ongoing issue, and day-by-day companies produce mass amounts of clothing stemming from poor working conditions. Many companies have been called out for their irresponsible practices, but people continue to shop and worship these brands despite their disregard for our planet. If we continue to support these brands, the carbon footprint from creating mass amounts of cheap clothing will negatively affect our climate.

I want to use this platform to educate people on fast fashion and how the fashion industry negatively affects our world. This blog will differ from your typical sustainable fashion blog because I will focus on this industry through a PR lens. I will dive into possible campaigns, brand reputation, ways to reinvent your brand, social media campaigns, and many other topics.

I am eager to utilize the public relations skills I have learned through courses and clubs at the UO to research and analyze the industry in depth. I believe it is time that celebrities and companies understand the harsh realities we face because they support these brands–which we can only achieve by educating one another. There are so many sustainable options, so we don’t feed into fast fashion. Now is the time to take a stand and stick up for our planet.

I will be posting blogs every week, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out my LinkedIn
