Five Ways Reformation Has Superior CSR

Reformation started as a vintage clothing brand in Los Angeles in 2009. It prioritizes sustainability. Corporate social responsibility is a critical component of Reformation’s mission. On the top of its website, it says, “We will be climate positive by 2025. It highlights the main areas of sustainability: people, products, planet, progress, and more. After researching Refomation, I have listed some ways Reformation has amazing CSR.

  1. Employees are Prioritized

Reformation explains that its priority is ensuring safe, healthy, and equitable working conditions. Reformation employees are required to take monthly training courses to help employees develop their mission.

Reformation educates employees and customers on the importance of voting. Employees have access to many educational programs and opportunities. The company does not just prioritize “important” employees; every worker is valued down to garment workers and the packaging team.

  1. Factory

Reformation creates its products in its factory in Los Angeles because the company wanted to be in control of its garment workers. The company prioritizes a safe, healthy, and fair working environment for its team and workers in the supply chain. Reformation has a partnership with the Fair Labor Association that conducts on-site social responsibility audits to ensure the workers are valued in the organization.

  1. Sustainability Reports

Reformation prioritizes sustainability and showcases its quarterly sustainability report. All of their reports since 2016 can be accessed on their website. Reformation is candid and open with its consumers, which many brands lack. This creates a trustful relationship with consumers, and many will be loyal.

  1. Materials

Some of Reformation’s products have virgin cashmere, which has a huge carbon footprint and represents less than 1% of the material purchased, but it accounts for half of the carbon footprint. Reformation is in the process of creating sustainable cashmere, but it is not perfected yet. The new yarm has 87% less of a carbon impact than conventional cashmere.

Last year, the company introduced regenerative wool that focuses on soil health and getting rid of chemicals. Reformation recently launched a wool collection from transitional regenerative farms, which means the sheep are raised ethically.

Reformation has a goal to be able to trace 100% of their products down to every product by 2025. Down to every fiber, the products will be recycled, regenerative, and renewable materials. The company’s goal is to be as sustainable as possible, and it is willing to make sacrifices to meet those goals.

5. RefRecycling

Reformation offers a program that allows customers to drop off Reformation products they no longer want at retail stores. Customers will receive a credit for every item they ship back. This program allows clothes that people are not wearing to be reused and put towards a new product.

The list could go on for ages explaining how Reformation makes sustainability its number one priority. The company makes it easy to access all of this information on its website. I have never seen a company be as candid with its customers as Reformation is, and customers can educate themselves easily on sustainability. Other fashion brands should look at Reformation’s corporate social responsibility and implement the programs and opportunities to build a better brand. After researching this brand, I will continue to shop and support Reformation. Using fast fashion and unethical working conditions should not be done by any brand, and it is time people stop supporting these brands that ruin our planet.
